What do you think about gastric byp surgery?

I had a cousin she died 1yr after gastric byp surgery. Her children found her in may 4th 2005 in her bed non responsive. autopsy shows it was a overdose but i have a hard time believing that even till this day. so if you have any answer or want to share some knowledge to help me better understand this surgery let me know thanks.............
