Sueing Landlord For Security Deposit HELP!!!?

I have a problem. I live in off campus apartments and my recent landlord took $550 out of my security deposit to replace the fridge. However, the fridge still works and only has a dent in it from the counter it was sitting next to. I Just filed it in small claims court, but dont know what legal standing I have. He told me that he got rid of it because the dent made it obsolete, and that people that rent from the complex expect everything to be nice and new. (I was the first tenet in the apartment)
